Galentine's Day Explained

Admit it, you’ve been afraid to ask what Galentine’s Day is, but the term has been creeping into your news-feed ...and your sub-conscious.

Fear Not! Here it is in a nutshell.

Galentine’s Day originated on the NBC TV show “Parks and Recreation” staring Amy Poehler. During an episode circa 2010, Amy’s character, Leslie Knope proclaims February 13th “Galentine’s Day.”

It is not a bash on Valentine’s Day, but rather a celebration of female friendship. The celebration takes place the day before Valentine’s Day, in theory over brunch…and with flowers and waffles!

As Poehler’s character explains,
“Oh, it's only the best day of the year. Every February 13, my lady friends and I leave our husbands and our boyfriends at home, and we just come and kick it, breakfast-style. Ladies celebrating ladies. It’s like Lilith Fair, minus the angst. Plus frittatas.”
Standard and Fancy Tulips in a wine glass make a great Galentine's presentation.

What started as sort of a pop-culture, inside joke has matured into a full out celebration. Galentine’s Day has become a legitimate flower sales driver, just google “Galentine’s Flowers” and you will see that serious marketing is being put behind this day and flower retailers are taking notice.
These super fun reusable watering cans come in a  mixed color case, with bouquet or tulip bunches.

If you don’t already have something planned for your flower department or flower shop, it is easy enough to make a display among all the Valentine’s Day glitz. A rainbow bunch of tulips lends itself perfectly to Galentine’s Day, and the bright cheery colors make it very clear that this is not Valentine’s Day, these rainbow tulips are “Ladies Celebrating Ladies”!

Happy Galentine's Day!
