Hydrangea are the traditional stars of summer, but as autumn rolls in,
it is Antique Hydrangea that grab the spotlight. At Sun Valley, we grow different varieties of
hydrangea based on whether they will be used for Antiques, or not.

The varieties we have been growing for Antiques are just at the
perfect time for harvest. Muted earth tones with splashes of color make these
elusive blooms a very hot item.

Antique Hydrangea are unique in their ability to cross over
two different design aesthetics.
On one hand they evoke a feeling reminiscent of the 1940’s
and 1950’s. Stoic, yet resilient and triumphant.
On the other hand, they embody the “nude” color palette, which
has been slowly creeping into popular culture.

The “nude” palette gained attention in high-end fashion houses, then
moved into make-up and home interiors, and now has assimilated in everyday life.
Our friend J Schwanke, the Flower Expert at uBloom.com, has
built a wonderful Pintrest board that combines both flowers and other fashion
elements centered around the nude palette. This will quickly give you a good
idea of what this look translates to in flowers. https://www.pinterest.com/jschwanke/nude/?lp=true
Our nude hydrangea, highlight the upscale look of pale white
with tinges of gorgeous, saturated color.
Much like snowflakes, no two antique hydrangea are the same,
so this frees the designer to embellish each bouquet or arrangement differently.
This look is all about subtly and poise, and shows a quiet confidence, that ironically hearkens back to the vibe of the 1940s and 1950s, except with a modern edge. You may even spot some Millennial Pink in these hydrangea!
