Dance the Blue Sea Waltz

Blue flowers are always in demand. Why? Simple, blue is the most popular color on Earth!  Yes, the majority of the world’s people prefer the color blue.
A Sampling of Favorite Color by Country

As we look at naturally growing (as opposed to dyed!) cut flowers, the Delphinium family is right there with Iris, Hydrangea, and Hyacinth offering the color blue in bunches and bouquets.

Favorite color by gender, in the USA.

The hybrid Waltz series of Delphinium is bred to offer a superior Bella Donna styled bloom. Sea Waltz is the dark blue and Sky Watz is the light blue, Sun Valley’s 2018 program is weighted toward the Sea Waltz, since the dark blue is the more popular of the two.

The saturated blue of Sea waltz, paired with its outstanding length (we grade ours at 100 CM / 40 Inches) has historically created demand that was tough for us to keep up with.  For 2018, we allocated more space on the farm for Sea Waltz and should have plenty of production through September, at least.

As our Wholesale Manager, Doug Dobecki says, “Jump in the water is warm!”

Both Sea and Sky Waltz are unique in that they have a very high-end appeal with designers and yet, look phenomenal in a consumer bunch. The biggest challenge we hear is displaying 40 inch product in a retail environment.

To this end, we have developed a prototype box designed for shipping and displaying tall products, such as Sea Waltz, Ilex and Sunflowers. Email your sales rep if you’d like to see some images of this box in action!

Sea Waltz provides wonderful "line" in floral arrangements. Line is one of the basic elements of design, along with form, space, texture, pattern, fragrance, size and color. According to the AIFD Guide to Floral Design, line is the visual pathway that directs the eye movement through the composition.

Vertical lines—stress height and suggest power and strength.

Horizontal lines—stress width and are peaceful and calm, provide a sense of stability.

Diagonal line—dynamically energetic, causing more eye movement.

Curved line—suggest motion, but are softer, more comforting.  Eye moves quickly through design.
